Science Fair

This term the children were invited to take part in our Warlingham Science Fair. Each child had to create a stand investigating and answering a scientific question. On 27th February a fascinating array of science displays were brought into school by the children. The questions investigated covered a wide range of topics including, How do avalanches happen?, Can I make a battery using citrus fruit? and Is there really iron in my breakfast cereal?

The winners and runners-up were then invited to the Grand Final of the GLF Science Fair held at the University of Surrey on 1st March, where they had the opportunity to display their projects in the hope of becoming the GLF Scientist of the Year. Throughout the day, the children were able to explore the many exhibits and also to take part in a variety of experiments. In addition, there was a key-note speaker, Jim Al Khalili, Head of Physics at the University and a regular presenter of science programmes on Radio 4 and the BBC. This was a marvellous opportunity for the children to experience hands-on science and everyone had a wonderfully exciting day.

Our congratulations to everyone who took part in this challenge and special congratulations to Ruby Gardner and Chloe Smith ( Year 5) whose investigation into popping balloons was placed 4th overall at the Grand Final.
